The One who Heals
Share
I’ve spent 2.5 years trying to figure out some health challenges.
And thinking about Jesus Christ being our “Healer” is something I’ve wrestled with for years as I’ve sought His healing but haven’t felt like I’ve received it. But I feel like He’s recently been teaching me more about what it means to be truly healed by Him.
2.5 years is nothing compared to the 38 years the paralyzed man in Bethesda spent waiting for healing by that little pool of water.
I think about Jesus healing that man and can only imagine the way his heart was bursting with joy. His eyes filling with tears.
The complete and utter shock and excitement as he heard the words, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
I can only imagine the way he felt as he stood for the first time in 38 years. The first step.
But I also can’t help but think about everyone else at the pool watching.
Weren’t they worthy of Jesus’ healing?
If He wanted to, I’m sure He could have healed them all at the same time.
But He didn’t.
Aren’t I worthy of His healing?
The answer?
Yes! We all are.
So why don’t we always receive healing when we need it?
Because there is more to Jesus’s healing than just our physical ailments, and maybe it’s a different healing that we need more urgently.
He heals by renewing hope. Hope that has been shattered time and time and time again.
He heals by granting energy to move forward & endure.
He heals by helping to carry your burden.
He heals by forgiving.
I think for the crowd at the pool watching the man be healed this brought them hope. Hope that if it could happen for him, it would one day happen for them.
The story brings me hope too. If it could happen for him, one day it will happen for me and one day it will happen for you.
So I’ll have hope
For He is the One who’s risen with healing in His wings.
